Richard was an advocate and mentor who changed my life. He brought me to the LA Times, to California and the big leagues. He advised me on beats to seek and navigating the newsroom. He introduced me to colleagues who remain friends. I am where I am today because of his wise counsel. I’m forever grateful and his loss reminds me I need to do more to help younger journalists in his memory.
